Sonata VI Dresden (WSW 11) comes from Weiss’s middle period, probably after 1720. The Sonata has 7 movements: Fantasia, Allemande, Courante, Gavotte, Sarabande, Menuet, and Gique. There are 3 more manuscripts with 6 or 7 movements (London, Warsaw and Moscow). Because of its completeness I have chosen for the Dresden Manuscript. The Sonata is written in D minor. For ease and effectiveness of playing, I have transposed the Sonata to E minor. To create more concordance with the baroque tuning of the lute, the G string is lowered by a semitone to F sharp.
